What Happened to Virtual Reality Gaming?

So here's the thing, virtual reality headsets have been out for some time now so why haven't they blown up? These things are literally technology from the future and yet they aren't really selling like such. Fair warning, I will not be reviewing headsets but instead I will try to figure out why all the VR buzz has stalled.

Problem 1

The number one problem by far is selection of games to play. There are actually quiet a few to my surprise but none are really that popular. You don't see big name games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, ESO... the list goes on. I do believe however that eventually all games will come with VR compatibility. Currently though, the overall trend of VR games are mostly platform games with simple objectives. The few exceptions are games based purely on their ability to show off an environment. Yes, it is very cool to be standing in the Jurassic period watching dinosaurs but when will we see the more popular games adopt VR? Hopefully soon, I would love to be running around the trenches of WWI in Battlefield but no.

Problem 2

The second problem and this is why I haven't purchased any VR headset to date is because of the price. I have and prefer PS4 game play so I'd probably buy Sony's headset for $400. That actually isn't that bad compared to the Oculus Rift - $700 and the HTC Vive - $800. So yeah they're expensive and as mentioned before, the most popular games aren't available so you're gonna be paying all this money to potentially play games you don't want to play. Seems pretty pointless if you ask me. They either need to lower the price or at least make some games compatible so its worth buying.

Where is VR Headed?

I think VR paired with any space game or any game with a good cinematic appeal will do great. I just saw the VR trailer for ace combat 7 and it looks amazing. It will actually feel like you're in the sky flying a jet, shooting down enemies and that to me is amazing. Graphics are always getting better so I have a feeling all of us will soon be able to experience life like activities and environments while sitting at home. The possibilities will be endless on what you can do and where you can go with VR. I don't play Sports games as much as others but I think VR will appeal to this demographic of gamer's too. Instead of simply watching the quarter back you will be the quarterback and have to scan the field like a pro to find open receivers. Now that is cool, that will get me to buy the headset and game. We have only talked about video games thus far and well duh, it's a gaming blog but VR has potential in other places too. This might be a little far in the future but putting on the headset to watch a basketball game live court side would be pretty awesome. I'm not quiet sure how the tech would work but i have this idea of putting a camera near the court and then people could stream it from there. Yeah, that idea might be flawed but its definitely something to think about in the future. So will I buy a VR headset soon? Maybe, as soon as enough games are available and I deem it actually worth it I will grab one ASAP.

To Infinity And Beyond: The Need for Space Exploration Games

Destiny, No Man's Sky, and Star Citizen. All very different games, but all have something in common. Space Exploration. With the urge for human beings to colonize mars and the revitalization of the Star Wars franchise saga, the hype for space exploration games could not be at a higher level.

Personally, the idea of jumping from planet to planet at FTL speeds and interacting with the uniqueness each planet has to offer is the ideal gaming experience for me. I don't even think the appeal for these games is the fact of the setting is in space, but rather that the player gets to discover something new. It's that, "oh look! I found a new planet and its mine and I get to explore every little detail it has to offer" feeling we all get when we play an exploration/adventure type game. These types of games fulfill that natural human curiosity each of us has that pushes us to discover and explore to our minds desire.

In recent years gaming companies have recognized the communities love for science fiction and the curiosity we humans have for space travel and exploration. We see developments like No Man's Sky that introduces an infinite universe of worlds to discover. On the opposite side of the spectrum we see games in development like Star Citizen that gives players the most realistic space exploration game to date. Lastly, we get a more science fiction view of the space genre in a game like Destiny. All of these very different in nature, but all contribute to the space genre of gaming.

We need more games like this. Developers need to explore these types of games with a more open mind. The rave right now is "Open World" environments, but why not expand that to "Open Universe"? Rather than have a huge open landscape, make it infinite so we can as players can fully envelope ourselves into a game with no borders that has endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.

I could definitely see a mass release of these types of exploration games especially with the progressiveness of the virtual reality technology coming into play. Imagine exploring a galaxy with virtual reality technology. Yeah. It would be incredible. You could be flying through an asteroid belt and physically look to your left to see your left wing nearly scrape the side of a hurdling asteroid. The possibilities are endless. Hopefully, we see these types of games make some great advances in the coming years!

Little Nightmares, The Weirdest Game Ever

Little Nightmares

So far this looks to be one of the strangest games I've ever seen and it hasn't even been released yet. The main character is a little girl who gets trapped in this weird fantastical world. The twist however is that it appears shes trapped in a very dark nightmare hence the name of the game. It has a perfect mix of strategy, puzzle solving, and horror mixed together giving the traditional game a run for its money. It is different, but should be praised for its creativity and imaginative plot.

Setting

The Maw is where the game takes place. As shown in the beginning of the trailer, it is an island in the middle of the ocean with a smoke stack on top. Yes that is boring but underneath the water is where the action is. Under the island is a deformed building that contains the monsters you will have to hide from.

The Lair is a place where... I really don't know what this room/place is. The only thing I can say is that it is in the Maw. On their website they call it The Liar of The Impossible Man which doesn't make much sense either. There is little info but I'm sure this place will be creepy as well.

The kitchen is where you will find the ugly Twin Chefs. This is where you will have to avoid these butchers and their kitchen utensils. You will also find them cooking meals which oddly enough leave blood and hanging meat everywhere.

Characters

Six is the main character and she wears a signature yellow rain coat. She gets trapped in the Maw, an underwater facility in which her darkest fears reside.

The Nomes are small creatures that look like they're made out of paper. They appear through out the trailer and don't really seem to have a purpose. They sound cute but if you see them up close they are pretty creepy too.

The Twin Chefs are by far the scariest characters so far. For one their faces are distorted making them the ugliest people (or creatures, not sure if they are human) in the Maw. When finding your way through the Maw and its puzzles, running into one of the Chefs is a definite death.

Overview

This game looks and sounds beautiful but not a lot of information has been released yet. It is rather simple in that you have to find your way through the Maw avoiding the monsters that exist there. It has a childish storybook feel with extremely dark undertones. It's a playful horror game which is different but exciting. I hope since it is more of a puzzle game that it is somewhat difficult and doesn't take me one night to complete like so many other recent games. I want this to take me at least weeks to finish. I think if that component of the game is perfected then this has a chance to be one of my favorite games of the year. I already recommend purchasing the game (release date: April 28th) even if the story mode is short because how amazing it already looks. Be sure to check out the trailer to see for yourself!

Nintendo Should Sell Their Games Across All Platforms

Playing Mario Kart on a PS4, Xbox One, or PC would be a dream come true.... If Nintendo would actually offer their titles across all platforms. Nintendo has a huge fan base that will do anything to get their hands on the titles Nintendo produces. Knowing this, Nintendo can market their consoles with the games to make triple the earnings.

Yes, Nintendo! The company that supposedly has an enormous reservoir of cash that could last them the next 40 years if they sold no products at all. It seems that this policy will never change with the new release of the Switch and the Switch only games being released with it. This policy is apparently heavily backed by Nintendo because they will also discontinue production of Wii U games meaning to play any new Nintendo games one must purchase the Switch.

So now what? Now we make the choice whether to buy the Switch or just not play Nintendo games in general. I am personally hesitant to buy the Switch because I feel that other than the main feature games, there will not be much of a selection that covers my interests. I am sure others are very pleased with the selection of games Nintendo is offering, but for me it's a no go for now.

Destiny 2: The Future of Bungie and the Destiny Series

I love Destiny. If you disliked the game I apologize in advance because this post will be slightly biased.

Overview
Destiny was the game that had everything a gamer ever wanted, but then was criticized heavily for its creativity. People either criticized the game for the repetitiveness of the missions or the story line in general. Obviously there is a lot more to talk about like crucible matches, raids, weapon variability, and other things that I found extremely fun, but in general the game was not well received by the gaming community. Nonetheless I am here to focus on the future of Bungie and the Destiny series if we ever see another Destiny game.

The Story of Bungie
Bungie was an independent game developer that started out of Chicago in 1991. They started by making a couple successful platform games for the PC. After these games received their success Microsoft signed them to a contract. Their first task under Microsoft was to develop the Halo series, which as you know became highly successful. Then in 2007 Bungie announced it had split from Microsoft and became an independent company once again. In more recent news Bungie changed CEOs in 2016 because of the apparent slow production speed of the next Destiny game.

DLC After Rise Of Iron?
A DLC after Rise of Iron is probably not happening. Originally Rise of Iron itself was not supposed to be developed, but because of Destiny 2 being pushed back Bungie felt the Destiny community needed something to hold them over until the new game could be finished. This is all just based on the information currently available and no official statements have been made. Bungie has not released any details on the next Destiny game or their next project in general. We do know that Bungie has a 10 year contract with Activision, so we know something will probably be produced soon.

What We Will Get
We will probably see one last major update to Destiny before Bungie finally calls it quits for the game. This update will probably be related to crucible matches and such, but it shouldn't really add anything new.

Destiny 2
We know absolutely nothing about Destiny 2. We know it is most likely in development and will probably be released fall 2017, but the details and official announcement are no where to be found. I am rather excited for E3 this year because I believe Bungie will announce something in regards to their next game at this event. If they don't announce anything I will be extremely disappointed because I have waited too long for this announcement. Some rumors floating around have revealed that Destiny 2 will include much larger maps for various planets. I personally did not have a problem with map size, but Bungie is apparently up-scaling your patrol territory in the next game. Other people have said Destiny 2 will be completely different and change everything from the original Destiny. This is all just unconfirmed speculation, so the majority is probably not true. I believe the next story line will stem off of the original and you will again be fighting a new form of "The Darkness" in an attempt to protect the traveler. Again, all speculation; who really knows what we will get.

I hope you enjoyed this post and encourage you to leave a comment on your opinion especially if you are a Destiny fan like myself. Also, a subscription to the blog would provide you with weekly blog updates and automatically enter you in future giveaway opportunities.

Nintendo Switch Games

With the Switch being released in a few months they have already released a list of what games will be available. The classics are making a comeback... which was expected. Titles like Super Mario, MarioKart, Zelda, Ultra Street Fighter II, and Sonic will all be featured on the switch, which I'm sure Nintendo fans are very excited for.

These are what I like to call the more popular classics and are why most people are going to buy the console. Other games will be released but the core fan base for Nintendo most likely praise at least one of these games. This line up is great and they even are bringing back some other older games that are less popular like Super Bomberman. I confess I've never heard of this game but the general idea is you use bombs to proceed through levels and kill enemies. After watching the trailer, it has a very classic feel with a modern spin on it which sounds fun but I'm just waiting on a new or possibly remastered Kirby. It was my favorite game on the Nintendo 64 and I'd die to play it again.

Newer games that will be included on the switch include FIFA, Skyrim, Minecraft, and NBA 2K. All of these are very popular and I'm sure more games will be added as the release date approaches and there after. That being said the games mentioned are very different from each other which offers every type of gamer something to play. So obviously Nintendo is trying to attract all gamers of all ages. Its a good idea but i think the fan base of these games are either on the PS4, Xbox 1, or PC which could cause problems with their sales. It will be interesting to see how well these games sell on the Switch versus other consoles as well as how well the console does itself. Leave a comment on what you think will happen with the Switch or what game you're looking forward too most. More information and trailers on all the games mentioned can
be found here.

Battlefield 1 Needs More Guns

Where is the primary weapon variability in Battlefield 1? On the surface Battlefield 1 appears to have a very large selection of primary guns to choose from, but if we look closer that really isn't true. After leveling up to about 60 and playing countless hours I realized there is a lack of primary guns to choose from. The primaries offered generally have 3 separate attachment variations which appear as different weapon options. Subtracting each of the weapons attachment variations from the equation, you are left with about 6 different weapons per class. That means there is only about 24 primary weapons! If we compare this number to the number of pistols and melee weapons combined we see that there are more options in the latter two categories than in primary weapons.

I am not saying the weapons are bad; I am just calling for further addition of new weapons so the game remains fresh. I personally love the game, but have recently been struggling to find a new fun primary to equip. I just completed all weapon codex pages (Even the kolibri challenge lol) and began switching weapons every other game only to realize I've used every primary in the game fairly extensively.

We know that in Star Wars Battlefront D.I.C.E released enormous amounts of content with it's DLC including a vast addition of weapons. This keeps me hopeful for this upcoming DLC release in March. In addition, the crossbow grenade launcher was already added in the Giant's Shadow DLC. So here we already see some indications of new weapons being introduced to the game and I hope D.I.C.E. continues down this path.

Some will argue that there were a limited number of weapons used in WW1 and that is why we are limited in the game. FALSE. There was an enormous variability in weapons in WW1 because many countries were developing new ones to try and outperform their enemy. This also gives D.I.C.E an opportunity to hand pick select weapons that will increase the players Battlefield experience.

What do you guys think? Is the current amount of primaries offered satisfactory and able to keep the game feeling fresh or do you want more? Put your comments below I am very interested to here what your opinion are on this matter.

Titan Fall 2 Review (Minor Spoilers)

Titan Fall 2 is one of the best games I've played in awhile. As soon as you start the campaign an amazing cinematic trailer introduces you to the pilot and the titan. Its incredible to say the least and you immediately want to become a pilot. See Trailer Here

The campaign itself is very traditional. Like every other game you start off learning the controls which are very similar to Call of Duty which was a concern. There's wall running and hover jumping (sort of not really, more like a huge double jump) so at first it seems this is going to be a bad spin off of those mechanics. Another concern was that I wasn't sure how the mechanics of the titan were going to be. I didn't want to sit in a killing machine the whole game and breeze through the story. After completing the game to my surprise it was beautifully created. The time in and out of the titan are evenly split and even when your in the machine there are still difficult parts. Like the classic games as you progress through the levels each segment has a boss fight. Its you in your titan versus the enemy in theirs. I think there are either 4 or 5 boss fights each getting more difficult and each being a different titan class.  Even though I wanted it to be longer because I loved it so much, the campaign will take about 10 hours to complete so its perfect length.

I was very skeptical about how the multiplayer would work. I figured as soon as a team had a titan the game would be over because a massive killing machine would crush all of the remaining pilots. This is not the case, its surprisingly very balanced. The pilots have ways of taking down titans very easily if used correctly. For example in my secondary slot I use a weapon similar to a grenade launcher that is designed to take down titans. That combined with the ability to switch on higher damage for my weapons (like a kill streak) gives me the ability to empty a clip into a titan and take away half of its health. The titan classes are pretty even as well. They all have their strengths and weakness and I find my self using a different titan every game. Sometimes I do well and sometimes I don't. The balance across the game makes it so skill of the player is valued more than the level which is a great feature. If you get good you'll do well.

The other aspects of multiplayer are phenomenal too. I don't know exactly how many maps there are but I've been playing for weeks now and still haven't gotten to completely know them all. They're very open for the titans but still have buildings and an inside layout for pilots hiding from them. When creating your load out you get to pick basically everything. That includes titan features and weapons as well as the pilots. There's so much you can choose from its ridiculous.

For a final rating I'm going to have to give this game a 9/10. The only minor problem I have is that the campaign story seemed slightly rushed. It was amazing but the story itself was too big for such a short period of time.

Far Cry 6 Possible Locations

Far Cry 6

Word on the official release date and information regarding the next Far Cry game have not been released by Ubisoft, but that won't stop myself and other fans from speculating about the next installment. Looking back we see incredible story lines and locations for Far Cry 3 through Far Cry Primal (5). Each of these game had their own unique aspects that made them each incredible. Whether it be hunting saber tooth tigers or entering a spirit world, these games had the players deeply invested in their story lines. So where will Ubisoft take the franchise from here?

Mexico

A Far Cry game that includes Mexican drug cartels and the beautiful scenery of the Mexican coast would be stunning. I can picture it now, your family is kidnapped by a cartel and you have to fight and complete tasks to destroy their operations and rescue your family. I would imagine a game in this setting would be similar to Far Cry 3 just not on an island.

Amazon

I think an Amazon/South American setting is the favorite among gamers when discussing the Far Cry games future locations. Running through a think jungle with temples, animals, and various ghost/spirit stories tied in would all fit into an Amazonian category. I could see a character following the amazon river as they progress deeper into the game with various bases and enemies fortified within the jungle and along the river.

African Desert

A desert themed Far Cry with desert temples and secret tombs is also another possibility for the Far Cry series. Desert storms, raiders, and mummy tombs filled with spirits and possible mummies would add a great story line into the series. This reminds me of an Indiana Jones type game where there might be treasure involved or something mysterious about the raiders and the tribes in the area.

Tundra
The frozen tundra is a truly unforgiving place, which makes it a great setting for Far Cry 6. Similar to parts of Far Cry 4 and Far Cry Primal we would see a snow covered environment with mountains and frozen over water features. Camps made of igloos and secret underground bases would probably be likely for a tundra setting. In addition, developers could add a mysterious creatures in the Tundra like the Abominable Snowman we saw in Far Cry 4.

Wherever the next installment of the series takes us, I am sure it will be exciting and packed full of enemies and animals that want to kill you. Post some comments down below on your thoughts and wants in regards to where you think the next Far Cry game will be based out of.

Will We Ever See a New or Remastered Spyro game?

Remember the good old days running around collecting dragon eggs in Spyro: Year of the Dragon? Yeah, well don't get your hopes up because there are various parameters blocking Insomniac Games from remastering or rebooting the series.

Insomniac Games does not own the rights to the Spyro series.... Activision does. So legally, Insomniac Games cannot produce any games under the Spyro title without the approval of Activision. So why does'nt Activision let Insomniac produce new Spyro titles if they have no interest in renewing the games. Well... Insomniac is just as disinterested as Activision is. In a company statement CEO Ted Price said, "The Spyro series was pretty easy to leave behind". This is looking pretty grim for Spyro fans.

But Wait! There is hope!

Recently, Insomniac Games has shown major interest in virtual reality capabilities for their games. In my opinion, Spyro would be an excellent game to promote virtual reality and would not be that difficult to develop. Below is a model of what we might see if Insomniac does make Spyro a VR based gaming experience.

Although this is just a project designed by a college student, it looks pretty amazing. Imagine flying through this version of Artisan's Homeworld in VR searching for eggs and completing tasks. It would be amazing! Hopefully, we get a definite answer from Insomniac sometime soon. Leave some of your guys thoughts below, I'd like to hear what you guys have to say especially you Spyro fans.

Rumors of a New Tank "Behemoth" to be Included in the Upcoming Battlefield 1 DLC

Battlefield Fans are going to love this one.

Rumors have been circulating about the first DLC of Battlefield 1 and what this pack will contain. One theory that I found interesting was the idea of a mega tank being introduced onto the battelefield. Users familiar with the game are eager to crack the mysterious hint Dice left us when they announced the DLC package.

What We Know
  • We know this DLC will be based around the battle of Verdun and will most likely introduce the french army as playable soldiers.
  • The title of the DLC is "They Shall Not Pass"
  • The maps will emphasize the use of tanks, artillery, and close quarters fighting.
The BIG Hint

Under one of the concept arts released by Dice lies a little caption in regards to the surrounding villages of Verdun. It reads, "The fighting revolves around key bridges over the Aisne River and something big lurks around the village of Fismes". Many fans are speculating that this "big" thing is the K-Wagen tank developed by the German Army in light of WW1.

The K-Wagen

The K-Wagen prototypes were finished by the end of WW1, but the tanks never saw any action. These vehicles are massive with the capability to hold around 12 soldiers and guns on every corner. Below are some pictures of the prototypes and what we might expect to see in the game.

On the left is a picture of one of the current versions of tanks available in battlefield to give you guys some perspective of the size of this behemoth. On the right are some schematics to illustrate the gunning positions and the where everyone would be situated inside. Whatever this massive lurking object is I'm sure it will please players and definitely add some new types of battle strategy to the game.

Post some comments below I would love to here other opinions on what you guys think Dice is hinting to on their post!
